Trivia Which is correct: "I wish you were here" or "I wish you to be here"?

The first one is right, because it is truly a wish.
Evidence of that is that it uses the subjunctive mood (“were”) rather than the indicative mood (“was”).

The second one is not a wish, but a command, as if spoken by someone who has a slave at his or her disposal.
