Recently, more Filipinos have been clamoring for Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte to run for the presidency. Several Facebook pages and groups have been created to advance his candidacy and as platforms for expression of support. Some businessmen and local politicians even financed his nationwide tour to promote his ideas of "federalism". More recently, a "million" people march was organized by his supporters in Luneta and other cities in the country.

To date, Duterte has officially decided to run for president after several months of flip-flopping between acceptance and decline.

Before you get your hopes high that Duterte is the much-awaited "savior" of this republic, take time to read this nuanced list of reasons on why you shouldn't vote for this madman. This set of seven reasons was compiled by netizen Claire Cortez, which was forwarded to me by a follower of my Facebook page.

1. HE MAINTAINS A POLITICAL DYNASTY
Since 1988, the Duterte family has ruled Davao City like their own kingdom. Before that, his father, Vicente Duterte, was governor of Davao Province for a long time. He perpetrated and maintained the Duterte political dynasty in Davao.

Our Constitution enshrines the prohibition of political dynasties in our politics.

2. HE APPROVES OF EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLINGS TO CURB CRIME
During the July 2005 Peace and Order Summit at Manila Hotel, Duterte openly expressed his support for extrajudicial killings and summary executions. He said "Summary execution of criminals remain the most effective way to crush kidnapping and îllégâl drugs."

Summary execution of criminals are unconstitutional and unethical.

3. HE HAS ADMITTED LINKS TO THE DAVAO DEATH SQUAD
Duterte has admitted his links to the Davao Death Squad on May 2015. "Ako, ako daw death squad? True, that's true," he said in an interview with Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa. He also warned he will kill up to 100,000 criminals if he is elected president. There is no death penalty in the Philippines.

Summary execution of criminals are unconstitutional and unethical.

4. HE ENFORCES LAWS IN HIS OWN CRUEL MANNER
His policies are cruel and unconstitutional. Once, he forced a tourist to swallow a ********* **** for refusing to follow the ********* ban ordinance. Peter Lavina, Duterte's spokesperson, recalls the exact events. “It was at this point sinabihan siya ni Mayor, '**** ka pala, bastos ka! Sige kainin mo ang sinabi mo at kainin mo ang sigarilyo mo.'

5. HE IS A WOMANIZER
He is a womanizer who doesn't respect women. Court records show that his ex-wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman Duterte, was on the receiving end of “emotional abuse” from Rodrigo whom she described as a “womanizer” who had frequent “outbursts of temper.” Recently, in his campaign sortie in Taguig, he admitted to currently having three women in his life aside from his current wife: the first is a nurse from Bulacan, the other two are employees at a Davao City mall. He treats women as sexual objects for his satisfaction.

Our Constitution, through the Violence Against Women and Children Law (VAWC), protects women and their children against abuse from men, groups, and institutions, including husbands.

6. HE IS IN CAHOOTS WITH THE NPA
Duterte helps maintain the Leftist insurgency in the Philippines by paying revolutionary tax to the NPA. In 2012, he visited an NPA camp ravaged by Typhoon Pablo. Duterte entrusted an unspecified amount of money to the NPA unit in the area explaining that the money would be used to “rebuild the lives of the people”. He said the amount is "apart from the tax I am paying to the NPA.”

We don't pay income taxes just so this madman can pay the NPA to continue their insurgency and wreak havoc on civilians and their livelihood.

7. HIS CLAIM THAT 'DAVAO CITY IS THE SAFEST CITY IN THE WORLD' IS A HOAX
The idea that Davao is fourth safest city in the Philippines is highly questionable. The source website, You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. The idea of a "benevolent" dictator like Duterte as our leader is absurd. It assumes that we, the people, are not capable of deciding for ourselves a benevolent course in our lives, let alone the course of our nation.

Our democracy has recently gained for itself the best performing economy in Asia after China, the most transparent budget in ASEAN, and has improved its negative ranking in the corruption index, all without Martial Law or any form of iron fist rule. It shows that we don't have to rely on one person, but in ourselves to bring about the change we want for our country. Nation building is a 24/7 team effort.
