It seems Nissan Philippines is ending the year with a bang. After launching a wide range of vehicles this year, they are closing off 2021 with another model launch. It's a big one too, literally.

After being in international markets for two years, Nissan Philippines has officially launched the 2022 Patrol Royale.

The look is new, but the model itself is still based on the Y62-generation model that has been proven since 2010. Specifically, the SUV you see here is the second facelift which we first saw in December 2019. It's a very significant facelift too, with Nissan making major changes to the exterior and even the interior of the SUV.

But what does the local-spec Patrol Royale have to offer? In terms of styling, it will look very much like the model we tested in the Middle East, featuring the boxier and more aggressive front end with C-shaped headlights and the larger V-motion grille. At the rear, there's a new set of taillights to match the front as well as a new bumper. The SUV will then ride on 20-inch wheels. Three colors will be available Black Obsidian, Brilliant Silver, and Pearl White.

The vehicle measures 5270mm long, 1995mm wide, and 1955mm tall. The Patrol Royale rides on a 3075mm wheelbase, double wishbone suspension, and features hydraulic body motion control for a composed and comfortable ride. Height is not a problem in the Patrol Royale as the undercarriage has about 275mm of clearance over the ground.

The cabin of the Patrol Royale resembles that of the Armada instead of the one we drove in the Middle East. Two interior colors are available for local Patrol Royale units – black and tan. Customers that order the SUV in Pearl White or Black Obsidian will get a black interior, while those that choose Brilliant Silver will get a tan interior. All models are 8 seaters.

While the layout of the dashboard is retained, the center stack has been completely redesigned. There's a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that sits front and center, replacing the smaller 8.0-inch display. The new model also gets a 13-speaker Bose package, navigation, a wireless charging pad, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and wireless Apple Carplay.

The A/C system is a triple zone climate control unit, meaning temperatures can be set independently for the driver, front passenger, and the rear occupants. The Patrol Royale also gets a new cool box feature for chilling your drinks while on a long trip. There is also a power sunroof, power adjustment for the driver and front passenger seats, power adjust for the steering wheel, and many more.

Under the hood of the Patrol Royale is the familiar normally aspirated 5.6-liter V8 with VVEL. It produces 405 horsepower and 560 Nm mated to a 7-speed automatic with four-wheel drive as standard. The 4x4 system on the Patrol Royale features an LSD, an electronic locking rear diff and a terrain management system that can be switched to optimal settings for pavement, sand, rock, and even snow, not that we can put the last one to use in the Philippines.

No diesel option here, but Nissan did upgrade the driving experience by offering the full suite of Nissan Intelligent Mobility features. The Patrol Royale gets the AVM with Moving Object Detection, adaptive cruise control (auto speed/distance), blind spot warning, lane departure warning, hill descent control, hill start assist, high beam assist, and rear cross traffic alert. There are also some NIM features that we are seeing for the first time in the Philippine market like lane intervention and blind spot intervention; we'll be very keen to try those out. Standard safety features include 6 airbags, anti lock brakes, vehicle dynamic control as well as front and rear parking sensors.

There is only one variant of the 2022 Patrol Royale, and it retails for PHP 4,548,000. If you opt for the Pearl White, that's a PHP 15,000 option that bumps up the SRP to PHP 4,563,000. At that price point, it undercuts the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 by over 600k for the base VX variant.
