MANILA – After several people were reported asking why the actor playing the paralytic Apolinario Mabini was always sitting in the movie ''Heneral Luna,'' President Benigno Aquino III called on the education department to address problems in the way history is being taught in schools.
Speaking at an awarding ceremony named after the "Sublime Paralytic," Aquino said that while he has not seen the movie, he has heard reports about students asking actor Epy Quizon why the character he played was not seen standing in the entire film.

Aquino expressed frustration, saying it reflects the lack of historical knowledge of the youth and that he would ask Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Armin Luistro to address this.
Aquino extolled Mabini in his speech for transcending his disability to serve the country and help in strengthening democratic institutions.
The Apolinario Mabini Awards was launched by the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRD) in 1974 to honor outstanding persons with disabilities, professionals, groups and establishments that "have rendered outstanding service" to PWDs.
