USB DEBUGGING MUST BE ON. It IS on the DEVELOPER OPTIONS…(JUST GOOGLE IT IN ORDER TO GO TO THE DEVELOPERS OPTIONS)
ps. make a back up….

1. Get your phone on fastboot by pressing The Power Button, Home Button and Volume Down Button at the same time.

2. Next, press download using the Volume Up Button and connect your phone to your pc using your usb connector.(IS a must that you use the usb port at the back in order to work properly!!!)

3. Flash the twrp-3.2.3-0-j3lte.img.tar using ODIN TOOL in order for you to have a TWRP REcovery.

4.Then, press the Power Button, Home Button and Volume Up Button in order to go on twrp recovery.

5.Lastly, Install The SuperSu zip …

Your J3 2016 now is rooted…

METHOD 2

How to Root your J3 2016 (SM-J320Y) with MAgisk patched boot image

Stock Boot Image: You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now.
  1. Install MagiskManager apk on your android device
  2. Copy the stock boot.img of your device to your phone's internal storage or SD card
  3. Launch Magisk Manager app
  4. If prompted to install Magisk, select NO THANKS
  5. If you are using a samsung device and wish to flash using Odin, then select Options > Settings > Update Settings > Patched Boot Output Format > img.tar )
  6. Select Install > Install > ρá†ch Boot Image File >
  7. Navigate to the location of the stock boot.img you copied earlier on, then Select it
  8. Magisk Manager should begin downloading the magisk zip file used for patching
  9. Once download is complete, MagiskManager will automatically ρá†ch the boot file and store it under SDcard/MagiskManager/patched_boot.img[.tar]
  10. Flash the img.tar using odin
You have a rooted phone using Magisk....
