I strongly suggest make your portfolio page, using your current knowledge in HTML and CSS, without JS muna. Get your hands dirty, this way, you will used your learning and mistakes for your next project.

Goal is. Finish a single project first, then find an inspirational page, study the layout and make a copy without any css framework.

You should encounter challenges that can help you understand how basics works. Trust me, debugging without any basic understanding how css works. You will worship stackoverflow community.

No, shortcut for success. Trust me, your employer will do the same process for you soon.

Please consider, an employer will look for someone who has the ability understanding the basics, cause in real production environment, just we have, it is more on debugging and solutions for any challenges sa project.
