Automakers are quickly making the switch to electrification, slowly bidding farewell to the internal combustion engine. Dodge is no different. Unfortunately, the brand's shift to electrification will also apply to their lineup of muscle cars. Yes, in the not-so-distant future, Dodge muscle cars might not come with a V8, V6, or a combustion engine for that matter. Instead, they will be electric.
To give us an idea of what's to come, Dodge has released a teaser of their "eMuscle".
It's hard to make out the design since the teaser doesn't provide a clear view of the car. However, it does remind us of the 1970s Dodge Challenger. Upfront, there's an LED strip that runs the width of the bumper and then vertically on the side. Meanwhile, the rear appears to have recessed taillights, another design cue of the classic Challenger.
But the shift towards electrification isn't easy. It's not like the automaker can drop in an electric motor into their muscle car and call it a day. So, when can we expect to see the electric muscle car?

Log in or register now., who spoke with Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, we'll see a Dodge plug-in hybrid model first in 2022 together with a battery-electric concept, providing a glimpse into the brand's future. Then come 2024, Dodge's first electric muscle car will debut. Kunikiskis did not specify whether the concept car or the plug-in hybrid will be related to the electric muscle car slated for 2024. However, it should be the case.
"We hope that we draw a different type of consumer, and keep the consumer that we have today. That’s very important to us, and that's why we want to get our concept car out next year and explain to people exactly what we're going to do. When things go into an electrified environment, we want to explain to people: Dodge muscle car first. And, by the way, it happens to have electrification to make it better,” Kuniskis told Automotive News.
An electric muscle car might not sound great, especially for fans of Mopar, Hellcat, Scatpack, and all things HEMI. But hey, maybe Dodge might be able to pull it off. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
