Crossover fans, we've got some very interesting news for you.
According to our insider at Toyota, they've got a few models in store for next year. One of those isn't just a new generation model, but an entirely new nameplate for us. Are you ready?
Toyota is planning to launch the You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now. in the Philippines. We were able to verify the information after we saw Toyota's plans for the first half of 2022.

While there isn't much more information to go on, what we do know is that Toyota is planning the launch for February 2022 and that this will slot under the Toyota Corolla Cross.
The Raize itself is not a familiar nameplate to us, but it is somewhat a descendant of another model those of us that grew up in the 90s know: the Daihatsu Feroza. The Raize is also known as the You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Nevertheless, Toyota is introducing it here, and it is a critical one: this Raize will be Toyota's entry to the fast-growing 5-seat small crossover class (about 4.3 meters long) that includes the likes of the Kia Seltos, MG ZS, Chevrolet Tracker, among others. The current favorite in the class is the Geely Coolray which is selling very well.
We actually didn't expect Toyota to confirm the Raize for the Philippine market, but they did start production in Indonesia with Toyota and Daihatsu. Later on, it was confirmed that they will be exporting a left-hand drive model to other countries starting with Cambodia and Vietnam, but no information was given about the Philippines.

That means when Toyota launches the Raize, it will be the fourth distinct model built with their subsidiary Daihatsu. The other three models are the Wigo, Avanza (with Veloz) as well as the Rush.
As for specifications, it is still very much a secret. What we do know is that in the region, the Raize is available with either a 1.2-liter three-cylinder as well as a turbocharged 1.0-liter inline-three. Hopefully, it's the latter that Toyota has specced for the Philippines. The transmission will likely be the CVT.

We were able to take a close look at the Toyota Raize at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, and we can already say that customers can expect a good entry-level crossover, but not necessarily impressive judging by the interior materials. If the Philippine-bound unit is a facsimile of the Tokyo Motor Show unit, then that will likely be the case.
As for pricing, we can extrapolate that Toyota will possibly price the vehicle to be competitive against many of the rivals in the class. If we were to guess, the highest grade model will be around PHP 1.1+ million, while the lowest grade will be around PHP 1 million, or even a little under.
Is the Toyota Raize (AKA: Daihatsu Rocky) a vehicle that is worth waiting for? Let us know what you think.
