“President Duterte offered to the People’s Republic of China the privilege to operate the third telecom’s carrier in the country. This comes after the Philippine...
THE POST-SALALIMA DICT PLAN FOR FIXING OUR INTERNET By Eliseo Rio Jr (OIC of DICT) The reason why we have such a small number of cellsites towers (Vietnam has 70,000 towers compared to our 20,000) is that we need 25 government permits to construct one cell tower. But also for more than a decade since 2002, the killer application in our mobile network was TEXTING, where we became the texting capital of the world. With nearly a billion SMS sent and received a day, the telcos were getting most of their revenues from this single service. AND THE 20,000 TOWERS ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE SMS TRAFFIC. So there was no real incentive to install more towers. But when the smart phones and tablets become popular and texting is being...
Copy/paste from: https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines/comments/7ewp02/debunking_dutertes_list_of_achievements/ So somebody tried to pass off a list of Duterte's achievements daw. My first thoughts as I went over the list Hay slim pickings. These "achievements" are not thanks to the president. Most are just here to pad up. A dinner with soldiers? Photo op with libreng dinner, achievement agad? Minor operational adjustments in some agency, achievement agad. The desperation is sad. Credit grabbing. The inclusion of "achievements" na disproven na, like the ceasefire with the left and free tuition for SUCs na either financial assistance talaga (So credit grabbing) or...

But the obscene gesture, captured on October 28 by AFP White House photographer Brendan Smialowski, who was riding in Trump’s convoy, quickly went viral. And it has now cost the single mom her job. "UK authorities have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly launching DDoS attacks on online services like Google, Skype, and Pokemon, but also for selling malware online. Alex Bessell, 21, from Aigburth, a suburb of Liverpool, was arraigned in a Birmingham court today, after police officers arrested him earlier in September, this year. Bessell faces eleven different charges for a variety of crimes, according to British media . Bessell stands accused of infecting over 9,000 computers with malware, creating a botnet, and using it to launch DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks that targeted Google, Skype, and Pokemon servers. Apples's use of facial recognition to unlock its iPhone X may open the gates for developers champing at the bit to bring the technology to the Android world. Face ID, which will replace fingerprint scanning in Apple's new US$1,000 iPhone X, uses Apple's TrueDepth 3D camera to verify the owner of a phone and unlock it. Android developers have been working on similar systems and are close to bringing them to market, said George Brostoff, CEO of Sensible Vision. "A lot of the Android photo [original equipment manufacturers] have been looking at facial recognition," he told the E-Commerce Times. "They've all been waiting for Apple to make the announcement before they did their final product go-aheads." Many OEMs try to avoid risk...
Image copyrightAFP Christopher Wray said more than half of the devices the FBI had tried to access in 11 months had been impenetrable Agents at the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have been unable to extract data from nearly 7,000 mobile devices they have tried to access, the agency's director has said. Christopher Wray said encryption on devices was "a huge, huge problem" for FBI investigations. The agency had failed to access more than half of the devices it targeted in an 11-month period, he said. One cyber-security expert said such encryption was now a "fact of life". Many smartphones encrypt their contents when locked, as standard - a security feature that often prevents even the phones' manufacturers from accessing...
