The puer eternus represents an individual who refuses to grow up and assumes a childlike or adolescent mindset, even in adulthood. This archetype is characterized by a reluctance to accept the responsibilities and challenges of ãdül† life, seeking instead to maintain a sense of youthful freedom, spontaneity, and idealism. The puer eternus often avoids commitment, lacks a sense of direction, and may exhibit a tendency to avoid making difficult decisions.

Jung saw the puer eternus as a part of the individuation process, which is the journey towards self-realization and psychological wholeness. While elements of youthfulness and playfulness are important for a balanced life, an excessive identification with the puer eternus can hinder personal growth and prevent individuals from fully engaging with the demands and opportunities of adulthood.

It's worth noting that the concept of the puer eternus is not necessarily a psychological disorder but rather a description of a certain pattern of behavior and mindset.
