DID YOU KNOW?
The ostriches have three stomachs and big eyes.
This unique feature allows them to efficiently digest their food. The first stomach, called the glandular stomach or proventriculus, produces enzymes for digestion.
The second stomach, known as the muscular stomach or gizzard, grinds the food with the help of small stones or pebbles swallowed by the ostrich.
Finally, the food passes into the third stomach, the small intestine, where the nutrients are absorbed.
The ostriches have the largest eyes of any land animal. Their eyes are about 2 inches (5 centimeters) in diameter, which is roughly the size of a billiard ball.
