Google maps is smart enough to keep the screen on while using the navigation mode. But when I'm simply viewing the map, it doesn't keep the screen on. How do I prevent the screen from timing out when using google maps without having to set a destination?

Thanks in advance.

There are a few ways to prevent the screen from timing out while using Google Maps:

1. Enable "Stay awake" in developer options:
- Go to Settings > About phone
- Tap on "Build number" multiple times until it says "You are now a developer"
- Go back to the main Settings menu and tap on "Developer options"
- Scroll down and look for "Stay awake" and turn it on

2. Use a third-party app:
- Download an app like "Keep Screen On" or "Caffeine" from the Google Play Store
- Open the app and turn it on
- This will prevent the screen from timing out while the app is open

3. Use Google Maps in Navigation mode:
- Enter your destination and start navigating
- The screen will stay on while in Navigation mode, even if you deviate from the route

4. Enable "Lock screen display" in Google Maps settings:
- Open Google Maps and tap on the three horizontal lines in the top left corner
- Tap on "Settings"
- Scroll down and look for "Lock screen display" and turn it on
- This will keep the screen on when you have a route set, but not when you're just browsing the map

I hope one of these solutions works for you!

Forget dev options "Stay awake" as it only applies when plugged in... Android 13, UI 5.1

The simple method is to use the Google Maps widget, driving mode.

Long press on a blank area of your screen, then choose widgets at the bottom, Scroll down to"Maps", tap it and choose "driving mode" and you're all done. Tap the icon that is placed on your screen when you want driving mode and Maps will keep the screen on until you close the app.
