Trivia Happy National Crush Day

Every September 27, National Crush Day, also known as Crush a Can Day, emphasizes the significance of recycling. It serves as a reminder that recycling decreases carbon emissions, saves money, and minimizes waste. National Crush Day provides an opportunity for environmentalists to promote recycling. Let us all chip in and do our share.

Did you know:
One can of recycled materials can save enough energy to power a television for three hours.

History of National Crush Day

Kruger Brewing Company of Richmond, Vïrginïå, created the first canned beer, “Krueger Cream Ale,” in 1938. By the 1960s, tin cans were being used for everything from tuna to motor oil. This can was popular because it was easy to form, could withstand carbonated pressure, was lightweight, and did not rust. However, by 1970, the first year Earth Day was held, recycling had gained much more attention. Today, 105,784 aluminum cans are recycled every minute in the United States, resulting in an overall recycling rate of about 50%, the greatest recycling rate for any beverage container. Because of aluminum’s limitless recyclability, 75% of all aluminum produced is still in use. This indicates that aluminum cans have an average recycled content of 73%. When compared to generating the same can from fresh material, making a can from used cans consumes 90% less energy and produces 90% fewer emissions. Remember to recycle your cans and do whatever you can to keep our world clean.

National Crush Day facts

✅ What they earn
Recycling aluminum cans earns Americans roughly $1 billion each year.

✅ How they melt
At 1220 degrees Fahrenheit, aluminum begins to melt.

✅ Carbonation Nation
Every year, the world’s beer and soda consumption consumes around 200 billion aluminum cans. This equates to 6,700 cans every second, or enough to go around the world every 17 hours.

Things to do:

⚡Spread the word
Encourage your friends and relatives to recycle their scrap metal by becoming a recycling champion. Launch a campaign to ensure that everyone you know is contributing to environmental protection.

⚡ Make it a game
Remember the phrase “kick”? Why not “crush” the can? Make recycling more enjoyable by asking the kids to stomp on aluminum cans before they go into the recycling bin.

⚡ Be an advocate
Investigate your community’s recycling rules and become an advocate for stricter recycling legislation. Assist your local political authorities in understanding the importance of recycling.
