Final Fantasy VII Remake is a new version of one of the most popular jRPGs in history. The project was developed by Square Enix. The creators of Final Fantasy VII Remake tried to reflect the concept of the original as faithfully as possible, although in some aspects they allowed themselves for greater discrepancies with the original. What we get is a classic Japanese RPG, in which we explore locations, conduct conversations, develop statistics and fight. Some elements have been adjusted to the modern assumptions of game design - for example, the fight has a much more dynamic character. While completely rebuilding the graphics, a better balance of realism and stylization has been put in place. To avoid missing anything from the original production, it was decided to release the game in several parts.
Story
The campaign takes us to the world known as Gaia, where industrial technologies are combined with traditional fantasy elements. The main character is Cloud Strife - a former soldier and mercenary who joins the Avalanche resistance movement and together with a few companions takes action against the powerful Shinra corporation. This company exploits the life energy of the planet for profit and in this way may lead to the annihilation of the whole world. The action of the first part of the remake takes place in the city of Midgar, recreating the story of the original and expanding it significantly.
Mechanics
The remake relies on a TPP perspective and dynamic clashes typical of modern action RPGs. A new feature is the hybrid combat system combining real-time with tactical elements known from the turn-based original. We can block and dodge the opponent's blows. Basic attacks work like in a typical slasher and charge up the ATB (Active Time Battle) bar; when it fills up to an appropriate level, we can fire slow motion to use skills, spells or items. Each of these actions lowers his level, so it is not possible to use healing potions with impunity. The "stagger" status mechanic has been added (known from the thirteenth installment); after applying it to the enemy, we deal more damage to him. There was no lack of "limit break" - a special skill available after charging the bar with received damage. The "matter" system is also back - weapon upgrades with special abilities, which can also be used depending on the ATB (and MP) bar. There are also keyboard shortcuts for the most common actions, which makes the battles even faster. During the fight we can freely switch between team members.Technical issues
The production was supervised by Yoshinori Kitase, director and writer of the original. Kazushige Nojima returned as the scriptwriter, while Tetsuya Nomura is again responsible for the direction and character design. Nobuo Uematsu, creator of the original soundtrack, is responsible for the music. The game has a full English dubbing. The remake was created on Unreal Engine 4 and with the help of Enlighten lighting engine. The first part takes up two Blu-Ray discs and offers an area comparable to Final Fantasy XIII. Each part of the remake is a stand-alone game.Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade (2021), 78.29GB
