Feedback Filipino trait

One toxic Filipino trait that still exists and should have been eradicated long ago is the prevalence of crab mentality. Crab mentality refers to the tendency of some Filipinos to pull down or belittle those who are achieving success or striving for improvement. Instead of supporting and celebrating the success of others, some individuals engage in envy, gossip, and sabotage. This toxic mindset hinders personal growth, discourages innovation, and promotes a culture of mediocrity.

Crab mentality not only affects individuals but also permeates various aspects of society, such as workplaces, schools, and even within families. It creates a hostile and competitive environment where people are afraid to excel for fear of being criticized or ostracized. This behavior is counterproductive to the progress and development of the nation as a whole.

To overcome this toxic trait, there needs to be a significant shift in mindset and values. Encouraging a culture of support, collaboration, and genuine happiness for the success of others is crucial. Education and awareness campaigns can also play a vital role in addressing this issue and promoting positive values.

It is important to remember that success and progress are not limited resources, and by uplifting others, we can collectively achieve greater heights.

Here are the examples.

1. Giving unsolicited advice- isang paraan i express sa kapwa natin na may mali sa gawain nila ay pagbibigay ng advice na hindi hinihingi; somehow bolstering the feeling na mas magaling tayo.

2. Chismis- common excuse ng ng mga chismosos is 'nagsasabi ng totoo'. Pero chismis is only meant to put a spotlight sa negative ng isang tao, to distract others or project their flaws. It goves them a feels ng of empowerment.

3. Groupism- as a means to discriminate others, we criticize according to their group connections via the stereotypes of that groups, like religion, dialect, politics etc. we criticize them both ways according and against their group identity, na kahit san siya lumugar may mali padin siya.

4. Double standards- when we decide na hindi natin gusto ang isang tao, we judge them against standards that we do not necessarily apply everywhere. The goal was never to make positive criticsm but to make them feel bad.

5. Blaming reflex- we have a reflex when something bad happens to someone to say "sabi ko sayo". Sadly, this is a part of how we express our concern. We tend to state the obvious na they made a wrong choice, but we just can't help to give ourself the credit. Minsan kahit nasawi na ung tao sinasabihan padin natin ng "sinabi ko naman sayo."

These is only someof the things we derive from crab mentality. We all know it is wrong. Pero hindi natin alam that we are playing a part in it. We are a nation suffering inferiority complex and expressing it in superiority complex.
