Chip bags are pumped full of nitrogen
All that excess air in chip bags isn't there to dupe buyers into thinking there are more chips inside. In fact, it serves a purpose—and no, it doesn't contain oxygen. Instead, chip bags are filled with nitrogen.
Oxygen would quickly turn the chips rancid, while nitrogen preserves the freshness of the chips, prevents combustion, and creates sufficient cushioning during shipping so the chips don't get crushed.
