If you really want to change your life, say goodbye to these 12 behaviors

Are you feeling stuck in a rut? Do you need a change?
The good news is that you don’t have to make huge changes for them to be meaningful.

Sometimes, it’s the small tweaks that make a big difference, and saying goodbye to certain behaviors is a great place to start.

Let’s take a look at 12 common behaviors that can hold you back and prevent you from living your best life.

By saying goodbye to these behaviors, you’ll pave the way for positive change, growth, and a more fulfilling life.

Let’s dig in:

1) Procrastination

We all do it.

When there’s something we don’t feel like doing or when we have too much on our plates, we procrastinate.

But here’s the thing: avoiding or delaying important tasks can actually lead to stress and hinder your progress.

Try to prioritize your tasks instead and don’t take on more than you can handle.

Instead of procrastinating, aim to make consistent progress (take baby steps) toward your goals.

And when it comes to tasks you don’t actually feel like doing, try ripping off the bandaid!

2) Negative self-talk

Yet another behavior a lot of us can’t resist.

“I can’t do that!”, “It’s too hard.”, “It’s impossible.”, “Nobody will take me seriously.”, “Why bother?” …

Negative self-talk only ever leads to one thing: Giving up (often without even trying).

But we can’t get anywhere in life if we give up, can we?

So if you want to make some real changes, replace self-criticism and negative self-talk with self-compassion and positive affirmations.

Believe in yourself and cultivate a positive mindset.

Can you do that?

3) Fear of failure

Yes, it’s true. Failure is a real possibility.

But, so what?

We all fail from time to time, it’s a normal part of life.

Instead of being so afraid of failure and letting it hold you back, try to look at the possibility of failure as a learning opportunity.

Recognize that in order to become better and grow, you need to make mistakes. It’s all a natural part of personal development.

4) People-pleasing

Instead of always trying to please other people and doing what makes them happy or what they expect from you, do what makes you happy.

Prioritize your own needs!

Turns out that people-pleasing often results in neglecting your own well-being. It can be draining and prevent you from living authentically.

Start by setting some boundaries and remember to prioritize your own well-being and happiness!

Take my advice and you’ll achieve meaningful change.

5) Comparison to others

There’s nothing more harmful to your self-esteem and self-confidence than constantly comparing yourself to other people.

Everyone’s different and we all have our strengths and weaknesses, and trust me, comparing yourself to others never amounted to any good.

Try instead to focus on your own journey. Celebrate your achievements no matter how big or small.

In short: Strive for personal growth but leave out the unnecessary comparison.

6) Perfectionism

Did you know that striving for perfection can actually hinder progress?

It’s true.

What’s more, it can make you feel like a failure.

That’s because perfection is unattainable. Nobody is perfect.

Embrace your imperfections and learn from your mistakes. And instead of aiming for perfection, aim for progress.

How does that sound?

7) Dwelling on the past

Dwelling on the past and holding on to past mistakes, regrets, and grudges will prevent you from moving forward.

So, if you want to make progress, if you want to change your life, then you need to let go of the past.

Start practicing forgiveness.

Let go of what you cannot change.

Instead, focus on the present and how what you do now will impact the future.

8) Negative relationships

I said it before and I’ll say it again – you need to either cut toxic people out of your life completely or limit the time you spend with them.

Think about it: being around toxic and unsupportive people will suck the energy right out of you and hinder personal growth.

Do that and you’re sure to notice a change…

9) Mindless consumption

Stop bingeing!

Whether it’s junk food or Netflix shows, excessive and mindless consumption never amounted to any good. It might feel good in the moment but in hindsight…

Instead, try to make conscious and healthy choices.

Be mindful about what you eat. Think about how you’re spending your time and what you engage with.

There are no two ways about it, if you really want to change your life, you need to stop with the mindless consumption.

10) Lack of self-care

Deep down you know better.

There’s nothing “cool” about neglecting yourself and playing a martyr.

All it will do is hinder you from moving forward and possibly even lead to burnout and sickness.

Start making a change today and make your physical, emotional, and mental well-being a priority!

11) Making excuses

Yes, I know. Everyone makes excuses, I do too.

But it’s a pretty bad habit and one that’s work saying goodbye to.

Here’s the thing: Making excuses can keep you from taking responsibility for your choices and get in the way of you making progress.

So, stop making excuses and do what needs to be done.

Take ownership of your actions and decisions.

12) Resistance to change

Finally, if you really want to change your life, you need to embrace change and not fear it.

Look at it as an opportunity for growth and personal development. Be open to new experiences and challenges.

And remember that change takes time and hard work, so be kind to yourself and be patient as you work towards letting go of these behaviors and creating positive changes in your life.
