8.Palaspas sa Pintuan​

The fronds from Palm Sunday are typically used the following year for Ash Wednesday, but ‘til then, Filipinos place blessed palaspas on front doors to ward off evil and bad luck.

7.Anting-Anting​

A lot of people believe that albularyos are more powerful on Holy Week, so it’s a good time to send your precious anting-antings to them for recharging. Don’t have one yet? It’s also a good time to get one.

6.Bawal Masugatan​

Growing up, adults always told us to be careful on Black Friday and Saturday because wounds acquired on these days will take a lot longer to hear. Personally, we think they made this up to get us to behave.

5.Bawal maligo after 3 Pm​

While we aren’t quite sure why we aren’t allowed to shøwer after 3pm, the belief is that if you do, bad luck will befall you because this is the time that Jesus died on the cross.

4.Mt.Banahaw​

Mt. Banahaw is an active volcano between Laguna and Quezon that pilgrims believe is a sacred site. Folks believe that if you get lost in this area during a visit or a hike on Holy Week, you won’t be found or find your way until Easter Sunday. You probably should pack for four or five days just in case?

3.Rain on Easter​

Some of the devout are of the belief that if it rains on Easter Sunday, the water becomes holy, thus possessing healing properties. So if it rains on Sunday, alam nyo na. Ihanda ang mga batya.

2.Bawal Lumipat ng Bahay​

Some Filipino Catholics believe that it’s bad luck to move into a new house on Black Friday and Black Saturday. The idea is that because Jesus hasn’t resurrected yet, you could bring bad spirits and bad luck with you into your new home.

1.Bawal Tumingin sa Salamin​

Evil spirits are said to run amok after 3pm on Black Friday til Easter Sunday, so lolas and titas alike dissuade naughty children (and vain millennials) from looking into mirrors (or smartphone front cameras) for too long to avoid luring any bad juju out.
