WHO ARE ENTITLED TO FREE RIDES:
Every student—from nursery/kindergarten, elementary/primary schools, high schools, trade, arts, technical, vocational schools/training centers to colleges and universities (undergraduate studies and courses only)—shall get free rides at LRT-2, MRT-3, and PNR.
WHAT ARE THE AVAILABLE HOURS:
The program covers the typical school day hours from Monday to Friday: MRT-3 and PNR Student’s Free Ride can be availed of from 5:30 to 6:00 a.m. while you can take the LRT-2 for free from 4:30 to 6:00 a.m. Your commute pauwi is on DOTr too—from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
HOW CAN YOU APPLY FOR A STUDENT PASS:
If you’re enrolled, you may avail of the program by applying for a Student ID/Pass at the start of every school term/year, school semester, training period at application centers found in your respective major stations. It is non-transferrable and your student pass expires as soon as your duly-approved school term/semester ends. Beep cards are cool and convenient, but having your own student pass encased at the back of your ID is the way to go!
WHO ARE EXEMPTED FROM THIS PROGRAM:
As much as DOTr wants to accomodate every struggling and hardworking student, those from graduate schools and courses are not covered by the Student Free Ride Program.
WHEN WILL THE PROGRAM TAKE EFFECT:
This July 1! But you can start registering for your Student ID/Pass as early as tomorrow, June 28.
HERE’S ANOTHER GOOD NEWS:
The Philippine Ports Authority is now exempting students—from elementary, high school, to college level in either a formal or vocational/technical institution—from paying passenger terminal fees as well as airport terminal fees for qualified students in all Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)-operated airports.
