GOOD NEWS!

NOW OPEN AGAIN for commercial operations, the rehabilitated Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and extended runway of the Marinduque Airport were inaugurated today, 11 April 2019.

DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade led the inaugural ceremony of the airport that was left in a dismal state for years and has halted commercial operations since 2013.

The DOTr alloted PhP9 million for the rehabilitation of the airport's PTB, which includes the installation of air conditioning units and replacement of accordion walls with glass walls, making it more convenient, safer, and more secure.

To address the airport’s growing passenger demand, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) also implemented the PhP12-million concreting project of the airport’s runway, which was also completed on 9 November 2018.

After the completion of the airport's rehabilitation project, it opened to commercial flights on 01 April 2019, with Cebu Pacific operating scheduled flights every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

"Ang sabi ng pangulo, ‘Art, make the Filipino life comfortable,’ and in making the Filipino life comfortable, I want the farthest regions and the farthest provinces to be connected with one another, integrated to Metro Manila," said Secretary Tugade during the inaugural ceremony.

Officials also present in the inauguration were DOTr Usec. for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal, DOTr Asec. for Communications Goddes Hope Libiran, Tourism Asec. Myra Abubakar, and CAAP Deputy Director General for Administration Ricardo Banayat.
