Now Corporation has officially introduced NOW Telecom, a subsidiary aiming to bring 4G LTE to both businesses and residential homes.
In a press release, the newly-established telco will offer two fixed wireless products under its helm — NOW LTE Businesses and NOW LTE Home. These will be powered by a new service with a dedicated 4G spectrum and is powered by Israeli-based Telrad Networks, a global provider of LTE telecom solutions with more than 300 4G deployments in 100 countries.
NOW promises uninterrupted, 24/7 connections with no data cap, and will be targeted to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), remote workers, and home-based entrepreneurs. “We see a good case of providing the Philippine market with fixed wireless LTE, especially for small and medium enterprises and residential communities in areas that have limited or no fiber optic access,” says Rene Rosales, Chief Operations Officer of NOW Telecom.
The setup is similar to earlier Globe/Smart internet services where outdoor antennas are required to establish an internet connection for fixed wireless users and will be given a 0979 prefix mobile number. The antenna will then be connected to the wall plug-powered WiFi router or a pocket WiFi indoors to enjoy the service.
NOW Telecom’s 4G LTE service will start next month in select Metro Manila areas including Makati, Manila, Pasay, Pasig, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Quezon City and BGC in Taguig. The company is also targeting to launch its 4G LTE service in Cebu and Davao before the year ends. Plans and fees for its services are yet to be announced.
