6 Yummy Smoothies for Kids That Grownups Will Love Too
Can't get 'em to eat their fruits and veggies? These kid-friendly smoothie recipes will have your children begging to swap sugary sodas for nutrient-rich goodness.
Oatmeal Raisin
Ingredients
2 cups milk
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup raisins
2 frozen underripe bananas
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions
1. Pour the milk into a blender. Add oats and the raisins; let soak for 10 minutes.
2. Turn on the blender and process oats and raisins until they've broken down and become mostly smooth.
3. Slice bananas and add to the blender along with the cinnamon. Blend until smooth.
Makes 4 (6-ounce) servings
Note: This smoothie is thicker than most, because of the oats and raisins. Add a little more milk if you want a thinner smoothie.
Peachy Green
Ingredients
2 cups coconut milk beverage
2 cups frozen sliced peaches
2 frozen underripe bananas
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
2 cups loosely packed spinach leaves
Directions
1. Pour coconut milk into a blender. Add peaches.
2. Slice bananas and add to the blender. Add ginger and then spinach. Blend until smooth.
Makes 4 (9-ounce) servings
Pineapple, Red Cabbage, & Banana
Ingredients
2 cups pineapple juice
2 cups shredded red cabbage
2 frozen ripe bananas
Directions
1. Pour pineapple juice into a blender. Add cabbage.
2. Slice bananas, add to blender, and blend until smooth.
Makes 4 (8-ounce) servings
Red Velvet Cake
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups milk
Half a medium raw beet
2 tablespoons cream cheese
3 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 tablespoons agave syrup or honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups ice cubes
Directions
1. Pour milk into a blender. Peel the beet, cut into thin slices, and add to blender.
2. Add cream cheese, cocoa powder, sweetener, and vanilla. Top with ice and blend until smooth.
Makes 4 (8-ounce) servings
Carrot Banana Berry
1 cup plain unsweetened almond milk
1 cup carrot juice
2 frozen ripe bananas
2 cups frozen blueberries
Directions
1. Pour almond milk and carrot juice into a blender.
