Here we are going to discuss some of the tips that can help couples develop better communication skills. Once you go through these tips you can learn to communicate in a better way with your significant other.

1. Listen To Your Partner
This is basically the most important thing when starting a conversation. Listen to your partner. Be receptive to their opinions, advises, suggestions, objections and everything that they want to tell you. Most of the time, we are in such a rush to convey our point of view that we don’t wait to listen to what our partner is trying to tell us. This is the root cause of most of the heated arguments between couples. If you won’t listen they will have the same attitude towards you.Listening is a skill that needs to be developed to communicate better. Listening to your partner’s view-point with attention will give them a sense of confidence in your relationship. You need to understand that there is a difference between hearing and listening. You must ‘listen’ to what your partner is telling you. until and unless you listen carefully, you can never know what they really mean. So develop the habit of listening to your significant other in order to achieve better communication level with them.
2. Adopt The Right Approach
When communicating with your partner adopt a positive approach. Your conversation is not a battle which you need to win. Keep in mind that proving yourself right at times is not that important. I am not asking you to be totally submissive all the time or to always compromise in your arguments. Just be a more considerate and positive in your approach while communicating with your significant other. To achieve a mutual level of understanding, partners have to adopt a positive approach. Most of the time being happy is more important than proving to be right.

3. Be Honest With Your Partner
Mostly the cause of friction between couples is that they are not open and honest with each other. Don’t dismiss your feelings considering them as inappropriate, embarrassing or immature. You need to be honest and frank with your partner in order to enjoy a healthy communication level.
If you are hurt or disappointed by any of the actions of your partner, you must openly communicate it to them. It’s not about blaming them of something, it is just to reveal your inner feelings in a simple and subtle manner.Same goes for the feelings like desires and needs. If you want your significant other to be more intimate and loving towards you, then you should clearly tell it to your partner. Don’t hesitate in communicating what you crave for emotionally and physically. You should never feel bad about disclosing your inner feelings of desire. This conversation tip will just assist your partner in having a better understanding of your needs and desires.

4. Avoid The Blame Game

In many relationships, one of the partners is always a victim. The conversations are more like a blame-game, this always results in creating bad taste in the hearts of both the partners. If you are to discuss a certain unpleasant incident, then curb the urge to blame and criticise the other partner. Blaming, criticising, accusing and attacking your partner will provoke them into same kind of attitude towards you. And then this conversation will lead you nowhere.
o to develop and maintain a healthy communication level, focus on the discussion and avoid criticism and blames.

5. Be Attentive To Non-Verbal Communication Signals
Non-verbal communication signals refer to one’s body language signs. You must pay attention to how your partner conveys his feelings and emotions through his/her body language. Provided it is given attention, non-verbal communication can be very helpful in understanding what the other person approves and disapproves.

At times, there is a conflict between the verbal and non-verbal communications. A partner might not be saying anything to his/her significant other, but their body language can tell what they are actually feeling about that specific act or incident. Partners should always be receptive to both verbal and non-verbal communication signals in order to communicate better. Take both forms of communications positively and then decide which is more accurately conveying the feelings of the other partner. In most cases, it is the non-verbal signals that are truthful.
6. Communicate With Decency And Respect
Always communicate with your significant other in a decent and respectful manner. This is very important for making your significant other receptive to your conversation and view-points. Certain couples indulge themselves in a habit to ridicule each other while communicating. Passing humiliating remarks, name calling, sarcastic tone, complaining, bossy approach; all these acts will just make your communication with your partner more worse.

Every person has the right to respect. In relationships, respect and trust go hand in hand. You cannot expect your partner to love you unconditionally when you are not giving them respect, whether in public or in private. So make sure you treat your partner with respect and decency, just like the way you wanted to be treated by them.
