The Feelings of Failure

  1. The Feelings of Failure

Have you ever found yourself in a pool of tears because your life is not a reflection of how much you have poured in? You look around and you feel stagnant, and you ask yourself what have you done so wrong to still find yourself in the same place all the time. Maybe you had thought at this age you would have bought a car, or a house, or had a husband and kids or a promotion at work. But nothing has happened. And maybe you've prayed the spiritual warfare prayers, you've sown the seeds at church and in your community, and you've worked hard and been good to those around you... But still nothing. It happens to the best of us.

Sometimes the feeling of failure can creep in through voices of family and friends who often utter insensitive statements. Some of us even have parents who compare us either to our siblings or to relatives our age or to our friends.

It's painful and often leads to feelings of depression and later suicide. These feelings of failure can become so overwhelming that you feel like there is no point to life.

I am reminded of the story in the bible of Hannah and Penninah. Hannah couldn't have children and time and time again her rival Penninah would mock her and cause her to cry and not eat; all symptoms of depression. Hannah felt like a failure. Her husband tried to encourage her and let her know that she should be content with just having him but it failed.

Hannah came to a point where she couldn't say the loud energetic Amens during worship time in church, she couldn't pray out loud; her voice was gone, silenced by the sadness in her soul. All she could do was cry and pray in her heart. She felt like a failure. But one day God opened her file and the answer was worth the wait.

You too are not a failure, and He is working behind the scenes. I know it's hard to believe when it appears nothing is happening but HE IS at work and when he moves in your life, it will have been worth the frustration and the wait.
