The Los Angeles Lakers have completely revamped their point guard position this off-season. The team drafted D’Angelo Russell with the second overall pick and most assume that he will be the starter once the season begins.

The Lakers, however, felt the need to fortify the spot with a veteran and have done so as You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now. of international point guard Marcelo Huertas:

"The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Marcelo Huertas, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released."

Huertas has long been one of the top point guards playing in Europe. He has spent the last four seasons with European power FC Barcelona averaging around eight points, four assists, and two rebounds. He also has extensive international experience with his native Brazil.

With the Lakers, Huertas gives them a veteran to have behind the rookie Russell. Though Russell has a ton of potential, he is still a rookie and thus can not be trusted to be consistent throughout the season. Huertas gives the team something of an insurance policy, and also another style of player as Huertas is far different from Russell, Jordan Clarkson, or Lou Williams.

It is unknown at this time whether Huertas’ contract is fully guaranteed, but he is the 17th player signed to the team going into training camp. The team is still expected to add a couple of more players before camp officially begins.
