I have managed to get back on by scouting the internet

1. insert windows xp disk
2. enter bios setup
3. change order of startup to cdrom as first and harddrive as second
4. enter recovery console from the disk
5. at c: windows prompt enter bootcfg /rebuild
6. y
7. Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
8. /fastdetect
9. exit

restarting should work
