The Golden State Warriors were able to find a taker for David Lee.

Lee, in the final year of his contract, was slated to make $15.5 million. Wallace, in contrast, makes just $10.1 million. The $5.4 million difference is enough to save the Warriors nearly $20 million in luxury tax payments.

Golden State can save even more money by using the stretch provision on Wallace, but Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports reports that the Warriors will keep the veteran, also a former All-Star and a former member of the All-Defense First Team.
Lee had been projected as the Warriors’ starting power forward, but suffered a hamstring injury prior to the start of the season. That forced the Warriors to put Draymond Green in the first five instead, but it also allowed Golden State to get off to a 21-2 start. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr then moved to have Green start the rest of the season, en route to 67 wins and an NBA championship.

In all, Lee played 49 regular season games and averaged 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds. In the Playoffs, his numbers dipped to 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds, but Lee played well in several stretches, including the final three games of the Memphis Grizzlies series, and a two-game stretch in the middle of the Finals.

Wallace appeared in 32 games for the Celtics and normed 1.1 points and 1.8 rebounds.

Lee’s Warriors teammates tweeted out messages of support for the player, including MVP Stephen Curry reminding Lee of the first time they played against each other, back when Lee was with the New York Knicks
