The Los Angeles Lakers have selected D'Angelo Russell out of Ohio State with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The dynamic point guard caught the nation's attention during his freshman year with the Buckeyes, showing the kind of all-around talent that can spin a modern NBA offense. Now, he'll get a chance to be the next great guard to wear a Lakers uniform.

Russell's brilliant passing and control he showed with the ball in his hands made him a sensation to watch. His shooting stroke from deep, ability to score from the perimeter off the dribble, and craftiness with his handle all make him the prototype for the kind of ball-handling guards that dominate the NBA. He also 6'5 with a massive wingspan, giving him the physical tools he needs to play at either backcourt position.

The Lakers have been seeking an answer at point guard for years, and while Jordan Clarkson was a surprising find last season, Russell's ceiling and talent was too much to pass up. Clarkson and Russell can play together, though, both having the size and tools to make it a possibility.

Los Angeles was long rumored to prefer Okafor, but D'Angelo could shape the Lakers' offense with his incredible talents in an NBA that's relying on perimeter play now more than ever. Russell should be a great partner in the open court and pick-and-roll with Julius Randle, and the Lakers now have a duo of young guards to build forward with. This also could mean the Lakers' front office is confident in landing one of the top-tier free agent big men in free agency.

The first chance to see D'Angelo with the Lakers will be Las Vegas Summer League, which begins July 10. The Lakers' young core with Randle, Russell, Clarkson, Tarik Black, Jabari Brown and more might be the hottest thing under the Vegas sun with the kind of talent that will be on the floor.
