Android OpenVPN Setup Tutorial

Note: Please Note we suggest using You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now. app if your device supports it. With this app you simply import the zip file we send to you with your account details. Once you import it with the FeatVPN App, it automatically configures everything. After that you connect, very simple.

Note: Please notice that the following tutorial requires a rooted Android-based device (Android version 2.1 or higher). Your Android kernel must support "tun" virtual device also. The procedure is not straight forward at all and it is not recommended for inexperienced users.

Step 1
First, open your application launcher and run Android Market. Its appearance may vary depending on the model of your device.

Step 2
Some popular rooted Android firmwares (CyanogenMod for example) ships with Busybox preinstalled. This means that you don't need to install it separately from Android market. In this case you can skip second and fourth steps The Busybox from Android market cannot work with some phone models (HTC Desire for example).
The latest versions of this application blocked the installation on these models. If you are installing Busybox from another source, you should make sure that your phone is supported. Otherwise, you may damage your operating system and cause unpredictable behavior (boot looping for example)

Type "busybox" into search field and tap to find.

Find "BusyBox" application by Stephen Stericson and install.

Step 3
Type "openvpn" into search field and tap to find.

Select "OpenVPN Installer" and "OpenVPN Settings" applications and install them.

Step 4
After installing you need to open the application launcher again and run "Busubox Installer" application.

Choose a path to busybox binaries as /system/xbin ans tap Install. After copying make sure that everything went without errors and close the application.

Step 5
Launch "OpenVPN Installer" application.

Step 6
Click "Install" button. During installing type "/system/xbin" as path to openvpn binary and "/system/xbin" as path to ifconfig and route utilities (depends on settings of your busybox).

If it happened successfully, you should see a similar screen.

Step 7
Now launch "OpenVPN Settings" application"

Step 8
Now you need to download your OpenVPN configuration files from us.
You can paste the URL taken from the greeting file we sent you in the browser address bar.
Hint: You can find the URL of configuration files in my other thread.
After downloading you need to copy config file to directory where you want to keep these configs (/sdcard/openvpn by default).

Step 9
Open "OpenVPN Settings" again, press Menu button and tap on "Advanced" option.

Edit these two parameters with values that you specified during installation. You can also disable the ADS if you want.

14.jpg

If the files were copied successfully, you will see your account number on the main window of "OpenVPN Settings" application.

Step10
Now check first option to run OpenVPN and second option to connect to OpenVPN server. You can have few accounts with us and connect/disconnect them at any time as you like. If the connection is successful, you can see your new IP address there.

Step 11
You can always see the connection status in the system tray and get detailed statistics about your traffic flow.

Enjoy!

Few useful tips about OpenVPN on Android.
1. Sometimes, OpenVPN may not work correctly with Busybox if they installed in the same directory. In this case, you must install and run a Terminal Emulator (you can download it in the market) and execute the following commands:
su
ln -s /system/xbin /system/xbin/bb
and specify /system/xbin/bb as the path to ifconfig/route utilities when installing OpenVPN Installer. Your file system must be mounted in the writing mode.

2. If the VPN connected, but Netflix, Hulu or other site still does not correctly recognize your location, you must manually set up the address of DNS server. You can do it via OpenVPN Settings application. Just press Menu button when "OpenVPN settings" running and select Fix DNS option. After restarting the application will use one of Google's DNS servers instead of the default server. You can also click on the name of the account and hold your finger to get access to settings and enter the address of any DNS server. One of our own DNS for example - 216.131.95.20 or 216.131.94.5. There, for your convenience, you can rename your account if you have several.

3. If you are having problems with connectivity you can tell OpenVPN to write a log of connection. Just open your ovpnXXX.ovpn config file and add "log /sdcard/openvpn/openvpn.log" line, where /sdcard/openvpn is location of your configs. After restarting an OpenVPN application you can find all info regarding connection process in openvpn.log file. You can copy file contents and contact our Live support for help. Our specialists are always ready to provide you quality help 24/7. 👍
