It is difficult to understand why you look tired when you are actually not tired. Read the 5 unexpected reasons why you look tired and how you can combat your fatigued face.

1. Sleeping on your stomach

When you are sleeping your body releases fluid from your bloodstream into your soft tissue, including your face. That fluid can pool around your eyes, stretching out the super-thin skin that surrounds it. You will end up with bags under your eyes, which will make you look tired and older. A better option is to sleep on your back with your head on one or more pillows. This way it will drain all the fluid into your body so it cannot create bags under your eyes.

2. Allergies.

Seasonal allergies can create dark circles under your eyes when they get inflamed. The increased blood flow to the area brings pigment cells that settle there and create discoloration. Do notonly treat your allergies when you’re having symptoms. Use an antihistamine regularly even if you are not experiencing symptoms.

3. Dry indoor air.

Did you ever wake up with bloodshot eyes? It could be caused from the dry air in your bedroom. Sleeping in dry air can rob your eyes of moisture and cause your blood vessels to dilate, making you look tired. A good option is to use a cool mist humidifier.

4. Processed Foods.

Refined sugars and processed carbohydrates are terrible for your skin. They leave behind end products that cause inflammation, which can lead to collagen breakdown, which leads to wrinkles. They can also weaken your immune system. Do not eat or drink anything with the words white flour, high-fructose or hydrogenated oils on the label.

5. Caffeine.

Caffeine dehydrates you and can lead to wrinkles and dull, dry skin. It also kills off the antioxidants that protect your skin’s elastin and that can lead to wrinkles. Never consume more than three small mugs per day. A better option is to switch to green tea, which has less caffeine and is packed with potent antioxidants to keep your skin healthy.
