100 Stunning Photo Manipulation Tutorials In Photoshop
What is the best way to learn Photo Manipulation in Adobe Photoshop? Simple, you find a good and detailed tutorial and you recreate it! Well, I suppose you know the basics of Adobe Photoshop so you can just skip the easy part of learning how the tools works and go straight down to the basic and intermediate level of photo manipulation tutorials.
To be able to grasp the knowledge in Photo Manipulation, one must experience some important aspects in Photo Manipulation such as playing with the colors, compositions and combining different graphic elements with extensive use of layer masks. The stunning work that forms the basis for this tutorial was created by Rob Shields for a new exhibition called Episodes, put together by Designers Against Child Slavery. It features works that each capture one of three phases, titled Coercion, Enslavement and Restoration, in the life of a ***-trafficking victim.
Here Rob takes us through how he composited The Rose, his contribution to the Restoration phase, using a mixture of photographic and painted elements. He also explains how you can achieve more organic portraiture when you’re working digitally.
The tutorial covers digital painting techniques and gives some advice on colour and composition, as well as different effects that will help to integrate your physical work into the digital world. To work through it you will need a graphics tablet as well as pencil and paper – but don’t worry if drawing isn’t one of your stronger skills. The drawing needed in this kind of project is pretty simple and achieving realism is not a priority.

In this tutorial, New York-based illustrator Kervin Brisseaux shares his techniques to create a super-powered athlete within an atmosphere that draws on the traditions of sci-fi art, as well as religious iconography such as stained glass windows.
Some of the key techniques we will be using include adjustment layers, blending modes, and even Illustrator to create some key elements (though it’s possible to follow this without using Illustrator). Feel free to be experimental with your colour values and hues to amplify the overall mood and depth of the piece.
Kervin has kindly provided both an Illustrator file of radial lines and a layered version of the final artwork. This is for your reference only and shouldn’t be used in any other way. You can find these in this tutorial’s project files on our website.
