Well, Valentines Day is upon us again soon. It seems pretty relevant to have a little exploration into the topic of love and attraction, from a scientific point of view. Nothing too complicated here, just a bit of light reading and a few interesting facts to keep in mind during this romantic period!
Sanskrit origins
he word “love” is derived from the Sanskrit word for “desire”. This word is “lubhyati”. Thanks Sanskrit!
Time for a smooch
We all know that kissing feels great. But why? Kissing has been proven to provide many health benefits, this includes the release of “bonding” hormones within the body, this intensifies the attraction and commitment that is felt between partners!
Hug it out
A similar hormone release is shown with hugging also. Got to love those happy hormones! It causes a release in oxytocin, this chemical can reduce blood pressure and increase the health of your heart.
Speed love
A US study has shown that men actually fall in love faster than women do. Would you have guessed this?
The Love Vein
Have you ever stopped and considered why we have a wedding finger, and always the ring is place on that particular one? Well the ancient Greeks thought that the fourth finger on the left hand had within it what they called the “vein of love”, this vein was supposed to connect directly to the heart.
Love is similar to fear?
The emotion of love can actually cause the same responses from your body as extreme fear can. This involves sweaty palms, increased pulse rate, and dilated pupils.
Speed love Part II
Psychologists have undertaken studies which, they believe, indicates that it only takes somewhere between 90-360 seconds for you to decide if you have feelings for someone.
Sing a love song
It is time to forget the love songs of yester-year. It has been discovered that the oldest known love song is in fact over a massive 4000 years old! That is old!
Lucky number seven
According to studies conducted by certain scientists, the majority of people will fall in love about 7 times before they end up with “the one”, of whom they wish to settle down with!
Attachment or passion?
One theory is that because our brains are unable to maintain such a high level of bliss and euphoria, the romantic love stage will only last for approximately one year before changing. This transformation takes the relationship into the attachment love stage, which is more stable and long term.
We hope you have enjoyed reading these little facts about love! Remember that it does not need to be Valentines Day to show that special someone what they mean to you. Romantic connections can mean a lot to people in their lives, take the time to appreciate one another!
