MANILA (PIA) -- The Philippines has reached 60.75 percent of the total 168 million SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards registered before the July 25, 2023 deadline set by the national government.
Data from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) showed that from December 27, 2022 to July 6, 2023, there are 102,062,372 registered SIM cards, or a total of 168,016,400 SIMs sold in the country.
The SIM Card Registration Act, which took effect in December 2022, requires all mobile users to register their SIM cards with their personal information, including their name, address, and government ID number.
The law was aims to combat crime and terrorism, and protect consumers from fraud.
