MANILA (PIA) -- The Philippines has reached 60.75 percent of the total 168 million SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards registered before the July 25, 2023 deadline set by the national government. Data from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) showed that from December 27, 2022 to July 6, 2023, there are 102,062,372 registered SIM cards, or a total of 168,016,400 SIMs sold in the country. The SIM Card Registration Act, which took effect in December 2022, requires all mobile users to register their SIM cards with their personal information, including their name, address, and government ID number. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Friday filed a criminal complaint against the mall security guard for throwing a puppy from an elevated footbridge in Quezon City, causing its death. The number of rape cases in the Cordillera region had declined between the first and second quarters of this year but the ages of the youngest victims were “troubling,” the Philippine National Police in the region reported. Records from the Cordillera PNP showed that a 4-year-old was among the 52 rape complaints that were investigated by the police from January to March. The rape cases dropped to 42 from April to June, but a 6-year-old was among that period’s victims.
