The UST Growling Tigers also scored a win on the first day of their season after turning back Adamson Falcons, 70-64, on Saturday in UAAP Season 78 action Saturday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Ed Daquioag exploded for 28 points while Kevin Ferrer added 24 markers and eight rebounds for UST.
The Growling Tigers led by as much as 17 points in the game before the Falcons attempted a late comeback that fell short.
The Falcons came to just within two points, 65-63, with under a minute left. But a basket by Daquioag pushed UST’s lead to four points and kept Adamson at bay.
Joseph Nalos led the Falcons with 18 points while he was aided by Dawn Ochea’s 12 points.
UST joined UP, which also won over UE earlier in the day, on top of the team standings.
