Mario’s Restaurant is a Spanish bistro and an American steakhouse opened by husband and wife Mario and Nenuca Benitez in 1971. Nenuca, a self made cook, introduces heirloom recipes, while Mario’s name has become synonymous with good, quality steaks and the restaurant’s signature Caesar Salad. It’s for Baguio locals and vacationers looking for comforting home-cooked style dishes that won’t disappoint. It’s not for people who want budget meals. We recommend the classic Caesar Salad, paellas and the a la pobre steak. Here’s a fun fact: Due to insistent demand, the couple opened a 2nd branch in Tomas Morato in 1974, which is also still operating until today.

Fortune Hongkong Seafood Restaurant is a family-style Cantonese restaurant serving all-time Chinese comfort food including Yang Chow Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Pork, Steamed Lapu-lapu and more. It’s a great venue for big family reunions and company events. It’s not the place for romantic dates. We recommend the Pecking Duck, Crab with Sotanghon in Pot, Angus Beef Tenderloin Cubes and Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Fish. Our insider tip is their dishes come in small, medium and large, which is great for small and big groups. It has another branch in Pampanga as well.

Cafe Will is a casual but more upscale restaurant and night bar that offers an extensive international menu including American, Japanese, Filipino, Italian and Korean. It also serves a selection of beers and wines sold by the bottle. It’s for a more intimate night out with family or friends. It may not be for young students who are just on allowance. We recommend the Cheese Sticks, Beef Tacos, Seafood Kabab and Will’s Best Coffee. Our insider tip is visit Fridays and Saturdays if you want to listen to live bands perform.

Balajadia’s Kitchenette is a local street carinderia/eatery serving affordableFilipino dishes and street food. The place may seem sketchy given its location and facade, but it’s one of 8 Baguio eateries found in the area and is the most popular one. It’s for foodies looking for quick and affordable meals. It’s not for people who want a clean and upscale dining experience. We recommend the Bulalo, Half-Half (Roast Pork & Goat) and Inihaw na Liempo. Our insider tip is for the adventurous foodies, you may want to try their exotic dishes like the Bat and Balls, that’s sliced male organs of a cow cooked a la bistek Tagalog.

Cafe in the Sky is aview deck, cafe and bed & breakfast place located in the mountains of Sto. Tomas offering a unique experience of dining with a sea of clouds in view. The cafe serves light meals, snacks and beverages that are light on the pocket. It’s great place to bring the whole family, especially balikbayans or tourists. It’s not recommended for people without private vehicles. Taxi cabs accept riding contracts up the mountain, but it may be harder to find jeepneys that would take you back down. Our insider tip is, private vehicle owners are charged a minimal environmental fee of P25/head, children excluded, midway up.

Cafe Yagam is a traditional Cordilleran shop serving native Cordillera specialties, delicacies, pasta and sandwiches. But customers say the real showstopper is their Arabica coffee. You can even jam during acoustic nights. It’s for travelers looking for a homey venue to dine and relax, either by the fireplace or outdoors to experience Baguio’s cool weather. It’s not for loud parties or wild drinking sessions. We recommend the controversial You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Grumpy Joe is an American-Italian restaurant serving overloaded comfort dishes including pizza, burgers, pasta and rice meals. It is located on the 2nd floor of Jungletown which is near 50’s Diner. It’s for people looking to get a hefty meal without going over budget. It’s not for people who don’t like queuing. We recommend their topping overloaded pizzas, Grumpy Joe Special Burger and Fried Chicken. Our insider tip is they have combo meals for only P150, which already include a slice of pizza, spaghetti, fries and chicken/buffalo wings.

Good Taste is a 24/7 Chinese fast food chain serving affordable family-style lauriat dishes, rice toppings, pansit, mami, siopao and more. The food court style setup allows it to accommodate large groups of people. Word is, the place is quite full throughout the day especially during lunch and dinner. It’s for students and office goers during breaks and for late night eats. It’s not the best place to treat balikbayans or tourist visitors, unless they’re looking for something local. We recommend their famous buttered chicken, lechon kawali and broccoli. Our insider tip is to watch as orders get sent down in a small old school food conveyor box, from 2nd to 1st floor.

Being at the center of the city, Vizco’s has been a signature Baguio restaurant to visit. It’s a café famous for its cakes which are freshly made and affordable. Although it has full menu which offers all meals of the day, it’s a good place to stopover and have merienda as you tour the City of Baguio. It’s for people trying to find a restaurant that will get your money’s worth. It’s not for guests who want a spacious place to eat at. We recommend their strawberry short cake topped with real fresh strawberries. Our insider tip is that it opened a sister restaurant in Camp John Hay’s Technohub called Photo Fog Café.

Oh My Gulay is a vegetarian cafe and restaurant sitting atop the green-colored La Azotea Building on Session Road, the 5th floor to be exact. The place also serves as a permanent gallery for Victor Oteyza, one of the pioneers in Philippine Modern Art, and visual arts exhibits. It’s for the veggie-loving foodies who also love art and culture. It’s not for people who hate climbing stairs because, no, there’s no elevator. We recommend the Lumpia Salad, Oh My Gulay Rice, Dayap Iced Tea and Mangga Crepe. Our insider tip is keep an eye out for a big boat. Let us know when you find it.
