With training camp approaching for the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the biggest storylines will be if this is Kobe Bryant’s final season. Although Bryant will not make a decision until after the season, he is in the final year of his contract and has suffered three major injuries in as many years.

His former teammate, Shaquille O’Neal, recently spoke about the five-time champion. “If you still got something, you should go because once it’s done you can’t get it back,” O’Neal said. ”If I hadn’t got hurt I would have went on and played my last season to try and break Wilt Chamberlain’s scoring record.

“But it’s different for a guard because they got control –’I’m going to shoot this time. For big guys, it is kind of hard. You’ve got to labor down.”

While the focus is to remain relatively healthy this season, Bryant faces a difficult decision. Throughout sports history, there have been athletes who have retired too early and eventually regretted their decision. However, there are also those who played longer than they should have.
