As training camp nears, the Los Angeles Lakers have begun adding a number of players on partial or non-guaranteed contracts. Those deals are usually reserved for young players hoping to find a spot in the league, but the Lakers have now apparently decided to bring back an old face.

According to You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now., the Lakers have agreed to a one-year deal with Metta World Peace:

Free-agent forward Metta World Peace has reached agreement on a one-year, non-guaranteed deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

This signing brings the Lakers roster to 19 players as they head to Hawaii for training camp on Monday. World Peace becomes the seventh on a partial or non-guaranteed deal, but Wojnarowski notes that he is expected to make the final roster:

World Peace is expected to make the roster and play a role as a small forward off the bench, and a veteran extension of coach Byron Scott in the young Lakers locker room.

While he is obviously no longer the player he was, something that World Peace could offer is veteran leadership and mentoring. He has been working out at the Lakers facility with Julius Randle this off-season and Lakers coaches have reportedly been very impressed with how he has looked and with how Randle has improved.

The battles for the final spots on the Lakers roster will be very interesting to watch as non-guaranteed players such as World Peace, Johnathan Holmes, Robert Upshaw, Tarik Black, and Jabari Brown are all capable of taking roster spots. World Peace was a major contributor on the Lakers 2010 championship team, but left the Lakers after the 2013-14 season. He played for the New York Knicks in 2014 before playing in China and Italy last season.
