Lacy Princess Crown

Lace-1.jpg

Make a royally cute crown for yourself, or your favorite princess, with a few basic craft materials and a minimal amount of effort.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • Lengths of lace. To make my small crowns I used 10″ lengths of a 1″ wide, crocheted cotton lace.

To begin, lay your lace strips out on a piece of waxed paper. In a container, mix 2 parts white glue with one part water. Using your brush, thoroughly saturate your lace strips with the glue/water mixture, making sure they’re nice and flat. Bend each lace strip into a very gradual arc, as this will help you shape your crown when you eventially form it. Let the lace dry completely.

Peel lace up from waxed paper, and turn over. Using your Mod Podge, coat the entire surface of the lace with a thin coat. Transfer lace to a clean sheet of waxed paper, and sprinkle generously with glitter. Shake off excess, lay back on waxed paper, and re-form gradual arc shape, if needed. Let dry completely.

Using your hot glue gun, bend the lace strips into a circle, and glue the ends together so they overlap about 1/2″.

In a well ventilated area, lightly spray the outside of each crown with the clear sealer spray. This will help contain the glitter, and keep it from rubbing off so easily. Let dry. (I slid mine over the cap of the spray sealer, and an empty soda can, to help the crowns retain their shape as they dried, but you don’t have to.)

Decorate your lace crowns with all sorts of beautiful embellishments. I made crepe paper rosettes and glued them to hide the crown’s overlap, and then added jewels and flowers.

To wear your new crown you may want to attach it to an alligator clip, or use a couple of bobby pins to help secure it to your head. Put on your pretty crown and declare yourself queen, or share one with your favorite princess!
