LA Salle beat Jose Rizal University, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20, on Sunday at the start of the Philippine National Games women’s volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Cebu defeated College of St. Benilde, 25-18, 25-14, 25-17, while University of the Philippines beat Letran, 25-4, 25-11, 25-14.
Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo led the way for the Lady Spikers, but head coach Ramil De Jesus also gave younger players Kim Dy and Mary Joy Baron their chance to shine.
“Gusto naming maka-gain ng self-confidence ’yung mga players lalo na ’yung mga rookies. Kailangan namin ng exposure sa mga incoming rookies para masanay na sila-sila ang nandyan,” said De Jesus.
“Ang goal namin, makapaglaro ang bawat isa at mabigyan ng tamang exposure. Puwedeng experiment and the same time, gusto ko rin makita kung sino ang may pusong maglaro kasi iba ’yung training eh,” he added.
La Salle will face Emilio Aguinaldo College-A on Monday at the Arellano University Law School Gym.
