CAKE INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup+6 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
CHOCOLATE FROSTING:
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup Cocoa
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Melt butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency. Add small amount additional milk, if needed. Stir in vanilla

DECORATIONS:
  • 40-45 Kit Kat chocolate sticks (broke mine by 2 sticks)
  • Ribbon to wrap around the kitkat cake
  • M&M's or fondant flowers, marshmallows, etc.

*** Just be creative on how you want to decorate it. :)
*** Double the cake ingredients if you want to make a 2 layer cake.

*** If you are making a 2 layer cake, make sure to get the King size Kit Kat chocolates to cover the height of the cake.

HOW TO PREPARE CHOCOLATE CAKE:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans or one 13x9 baking pan or two square pans.
  • Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes.
  • Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
  • Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake 30-35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.

CHOCOLATE FROSTING:

    • Melt butter.
    • Stir in cocoa.
    • Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency.
    • Add small amount additional milk, if needed.
    • Stir in vanilla.

KITKAT CAKE:

  • Spread the cake with chocolate frosting.
  • Place the Kit Kat sticks around the cake.
  • Place your desired toppings on the cake.
  • I prepared this one by placing mini marshmallows and decorated it with fondant flowers.
  • (This is our wedding anniversary cake so I decorated it with some hearts and fondant cut-outs.)
  • Place a ribbon around the cake to hold the Kit Kat pieces.
  • Enjoy!
