Secretary Ramon M. Lopez , Department of Trade and Industry secretary communicated that he is against expiry dates on cellphone and internet card load and will arrange telcos to remove them.

He said there's no reason for prepaid loads to expire as this is considered goods sold.

"These services have already been ρáíd for by the consumer. I do not see any reason why the buyer will be denied the use of the services or goods in the future" the DTI chief said.

At the budget meeting to led by the House appropriations board, Lopez said the DTI would continue to battle organizations that might encroach on consumer rights by setting expiry periods for their items.

Lopez said that aside from prepaid loads, prepaid gift certificates and warranties on sales by certain malls and establishments should also have no expiry dates.
